Description
Brian Kaufman, DO explores the history and application of hypnosis in medical practice for weightloss, smoking cessation, pain management and more. Includes a demo for participants!
Objectives for this presentation:
1. Understand what hypnosis is. 2. Understand the history and present uses of hypnosis in medicine. 3. Know some appropriate indications for referral for medical hypnosis.
The Maine Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.The Maine Osteopathic Association designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Faculty
Dr. Kaufman grew up in NY and received an Honors degree in Chemistry at Stony Brook University, After graduating UNECOM he did a residency in internal medicine at Winthrop University Hospital, followed by a 1 year fellowship in Neuromusculoskeletal. Dr. Kaufman moved to Maine, and started a private practice specializing in Internal medicine, NMM, Pain and addiction medicine. He got his Pain board certification and most recently got his 4th board certification in Addiction medicine. Dr. Kaufman has lectured for both the MOA and at the AOA OMED conferences for the AAO. He has authored the chapter on the osteopathic approach to heart failure in the 3rd edition of the “Foundations of Osteopathic Medicine” and has authored an article for the ACOFP journal on the osteopathic approach to the renal and urinary system, as well as helped write the AOA OMT guide to billing and coding. Brian has been a long-time musician and has continued writing and playing music to the present time.
