Lina Palera – Music Theory On A Lyre (8 Lessons)
Learn all you need to know before heading to intermediate and advanced courses available at LyreAcademy. In these core lessons we are going to learn the notes on the music stave and how to read them, the rhythmic notation on a music stave, how to play and read several basic rhythms, how to read rests on the music stave, how to apply them on our lyre playing, what are the tones, semitones and diatonic scales, along with all the intervals and their categories.
* This course is for lyre or kithara players and for lyres of any type with at least 7 strings. It is highly recommended to first complete the beginner courses 101, 102 and 103, along with the beginner core lessons also available at LyreAcademy.
* Do you own a lyre with more strings? The course can be done by students with a lyre or a kithara with 7 or more strings. Simple and step-by-step videos are available to prepare your lyre for the courses (including tuning).
Lesson 1: Learn the notes on the music stave
It’s time to learn a new language, the language of music! Every lyre player will benefit from learning the music stave, the music’s global alphabet in a sense. In this lesson we are going to learn how to read the notes on the music stave.
Lesson 2: Learn the notes under and above the music stave
Let’s move one step further, by learning in this lesson how to read the notes above and under the music stave.
Lesson 3: Learn how to play several basic rhythms
How can I enrich a music stave with rhythm notation? A step by step guide on how to read and write a rhythm on the music stave.
Lesson 4: Learn what are the rests on the music stave
And what if a written melody needs a small “break”? Learn how to read and write rests on the music stave, and what kind of rests do we use for every rhythmic value.
Lesson 5 What are the tones, semitones & scales?
Learn how to read a tone and a semitone in a music scale, and what are their meanings in our lyre playing.
Lesson 6 : Learn the sharps and flats
Sharps and flats are amazing musical “tools” for creating expressive music with a variety of notes. In this lesson you will learn what they actually are and how you can use them in your lyre playing!
Lesson 7 : What are the intervals? (part 1)
Let’s go down to the roots of the music: the intervals! We will learn the first intervals and we will practice them through exercises for lyre players!
Lesson 8: What are the intervals (part 2)
Let’s move on by learning the rest of the intervals (to complete an octave), and practice them with further exercises for lyre players!
