ALIGNED – Karin Dimitrovova
This might sound familiar.. do you feel?
.. frustrated with not seeing any progress in your handstands even though you’re putting in the effort?
.. stuck because you think you “could never do that” as you were never a gymnast or “the active kid”?
.. discouraged because you simply do not know how to start learning handstands in a smart and effective way that’s going to be safe for your body?
.. afraid that you’re gonna fall and injure yourself?
.. that you’re too old to make any good progress in this skill?
I know it might be hard to believe, but ANYONE can learn handstands, no matter your age or your current fitness level.
4 MYTHS THAT KEEP YOU FROM TRAINING
LIKE A BADASS
“This stuff is just for guys. I don’t think I’m strong enough..”
Literally the biggest myth ever when it comes to handstands! Although it’s great if you have some good upper body and core strength to begin with, you’re not doomed if you don’t!
“I’m too old to learn handstands..”
Nope, I won’t let you use that as an excuse. Handstands are for ANY AGE! Look at Danielle over there who is 66 (!!) and smashing it.
“I’ve never done gymnastics or anything like that, I can’t learn the skill..”
You might be pleasantly surprised that I didn’t either. I have started learning handstands just a few years ago (I’m 27 years old now) with zero gymnastics background. You can always learn new things. Progress over perfection, you guys!
“I have been trying to do handstands, but I’m not getting any better. I think I’m just not cut out for this..”
It literally physically pains me when people say something like this because it cannot be further away from the truth!
“Whattt! I can’t believe I just did that!” [Olivia, 36]
Olivia has been training handstands for the past 4 years – not really consistently, rather trying them here and there. She has been working on her strength but she was still quite fearful about moving away from the wall and smashing her face on the floor (her words!).
“Handstands are this really cool move and everybody kinda looks up to you when you do them. I’m also a personal trainer so I feel like I should be able to do it,” she explains her motivation behind learning handstands.
.. it’s not just about practice, but also knowing WHAT to do..
I have decided to take her to the park and show her the key handstand techniques that I have been teaching in my workshops around the world (the very same ones I am sharing in this program) and after about half an hour of training, she was able to go up into a handstand without a wall for the very first time. Watch the video, it’s pretty hilarious, hehe (volume up).
Olivia didn’t suddenly gain more muscles
or get a superpower..
I simply taught her the right positioning of her hands, shoulders, how to drive the force through her leg for a successful kick up and how to fall.
Point of the story: Sometimes you don’t need more, but less – somebody who will cut through the clutter and show you what’s important to focus on.
