Jennifer Thompson, DO
Jennifer L Thompson, DO, is a transplant trained nephrologist based in Des Moines, Iowa.She is a partner at Iowa Kidney Physicians and specializes in general and transplant nephrology.She received a Bachelor of Arts in Biology at Austin College and then a Master of Biomedical Sciences from the University of North Texas Health Science Center. She went on to graduate from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Worth, Texas.She completed an internal medicine residency at Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas, Texas.She then left Texas behind and moved to Charleston, South Carolina to complete first a nephrology and then transplant nephrology fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina.She was an Associate Clinical Professor atthe Medical University of South Carolina in the Transplant Nephrology Section prior to being recruited to Iowa to help grow the transplant program at Iowa Methodist.
Dr. Thompson’s philosophy of care is to approach every patient as a whole being ratherthan a collection of diseases. She also recognizes that an informed patient is an engaged patient so makes extra effort to make sure the patient understands their diagnosis and the reasoning behind the plan of care.When not working she enjoys travel, especially to our National Parks, and spending time with her family.
