In this Lyre Masterclass, specially designed for advanced lyre players, we will go through all the secrets you need to know to produce crystal-clear notes using harmonics. This course is for competent lyre players who have preferably (but not obligatory) completed the Advanced Semester of the LyreAcademy. What’s more, it is for lyres of any type with at least 7 strings.*

The course can be done by students with
a lyre or a kithara with 7 or more strings. Simple and step-by-step videos are available to prepare your lyre for the courses (including tuning).

Let’s see which theory this outstanding technique is based on, along with all the secrets you need to know to produce crystal-clear notes using harmonics. Ready to explore what was reserved in the past only for the top-class lyre players?
Lesson 2: Learn Harmonics, Hand Position #1
It is time to practice with our first specialized exercises, unlocking the harmonics technique and mastering the first of the basic hand positions. Plus: Practical tips, and lyre exercises
Lesson 3: Learn Harmonics, Hand Position #2 & #3
Let’s explore further the harmonics technique by focusing on the rest of the basic hand positions. Where are these positions, what note they produce, and how to implement them in our playing?
Lesson 4: Learn a Melody using only Harmonics
Time to combine everything you have learned in theory and practiced so far by playing a music piece using only harmonics. We will learn, step by step, an original composition titled “Euripides.”
Lesson 5: Harmonics with the Left Hand
Ready to add your left hand to your harmonics technique? Why is this important, and how can you grasp this skill? A series of specialized exercises to help you master harmonics with your left hand.
Lesson 6: Learn to Play “Behind the Clouds”
It is time to learn a challenging melody that requires you to play harmonics with both hands. We will play together, step by step, a composition specially written for this skill and titled “Behind the Clouds.”
Lesson 7 Harmonics and Ancient Greek Modes
Is it possible to play all the ancient Greek modes using only harmonics? Let’s explore together how we can accomplish that and how to practice making this skill part of our everyday lyre playing.
Lesson 8 Harmonics & Fingerstyle Playing
Time to move to the next level by combining these two playing techniques in one piece of music; an original composition called “On the Edge.”
Lesson 9 Harmonics & Hroes
In this final lesson, we will see some advanced tips and run through some more bits of advice on how someone can become a better lyre tutor for advanced students!
Lesson 10: Harmonics & Chords: Learn to Play “Vero”
In this lesson, we are going to explore how we can use harmonics technique alongside regular chorus in one piece of music, an original composition titled “Vero.”
Lesson 11: Harmonics & Muting Chords
Adding muting chords to your harmonics technique’ repertoire? In this lesson, we are going to see both the “how” and the “why” for using these two techniques together.
Lesson 12: Masterclass Finale
In this final lesson, we will see some advanced tips and run through some more bits of advice on how someone can become a better lyre tutor for advanced students!
